I write this just a few minutes after a discussion with my team at work. Well it was a heated as well as a humorous debate but I was just a silent spectator as mostly Andhra guys were speaking and for the record, we had people belonging to Seemandhra(Non Telangana) and Telangana side as well.
My honest opinion in this issue is that a state should not be divided. I have not done a detailed research about this topic so far. Today I heard some claims that Telangana people have been deprived of many resources and opportunities for a long period of time. If that is the case then a lot more has to be understood by myself before I pass a statement on this issue. However my general stand that a state should not be divided remains firm.
What is this issue all about? Why did it come up for discussion today?
The basic reason is the fact that, today in all leading national newspapers, the headline is:
To quote Times of India:
"Protest continues; trains, airports, hospital services hit across Andhra"
Yes, workers at power generating units across the state have shut down the power plants to protest against the bifurcation of the state. Many parts of Andhra and some other south Indian regions have also been affected due to this. There have been instances such as even the wards in hospitals not functioning due to this. Even ATMs were affected. In addition to all this, train services from the state are also affected. The Hyderabad airport was working on backup power yesterday. There were reported power cuts in Andhra for 2-3 hours yesterday. If the situation continues, we are in for some dark days ahead in Andhra literally!
Several union ministers from Andhra have also submitted their resignation to the Speaker. This includes high profile actor turned politician Chiranjeevi as well. These union ministers have spoken to the Prime Minister of the nation indicating their stand The decision to split the state into 2 paving way for the 29th state of India was announced by congress in early August if my memory doesn't fail me.
This just in : 1000 paramilitary personnel rushed to Andhra by the Union Home Ministry to deal with an issue arising from the decision of Andhra. State capital Hyderabad is also now on top priority in terms of security.
So when will this decision be out? What will be the outcome? Lets wait and watch. Anyway one thing is for sure that the decision won't be acceptable for either one of the groups. Hope that peace prevails in the area.
