Recent Events

Yo, whats up world.

It's time for a post in this semi-personal blog that not a lot of people know exists.

Just planning a quarter-year checkpoint this time: it is 2019 and we are approaching the end of March. The first three months as usual have flown past us before we even realized what was happening.

This is an exciting year in terms of a number of things:

1. Indian General Elections: The largest democracy in the world is going to vote in the April/May timeframe and choose the leader of this great democracy. While things were pretty much predictable back in 2014, things are a bit more complicated this time around. Incumbent PM of India Narendra Modi v/s INC President Rahul Gandhi. Some interesting turn of events and we are awaiting what will happen.

2. IPL 2019 fever is on: So yesterday (3/23) the famous IPL kicked off without a glamourous opening ceremony this time as the Committee of Administrators (CoA) have decided to donate the allocated fund to the families of the CRPF personnel, who lost their lives in Pulwama terror attack. This is the 12th year of IPL. CSK remains the most successful team in IPL. IPL has had its moments of highs and lows - Sreesanth slapgate, suspension of the founding Chairman of IPL, Lalit Modi, this 2-3 month event stays close to the heart of Indians. I had the opportunity to watch the 2017 semi-final at Wankhede Stadium in 2017, fond memories of the place & time! Supporting Mumbai Indians again this year.

3. Brexit is going to happen: Finally! Even as British PM, Theresa May is having a hard time getting to a pass a Brexit deal causing delays in the process.

4. U.S. Presidential Election: In the U.S., election fever has started with a number of candidates jumping into the bandwagon for the Presidential election in 2020. Will the incumbent POTUS, Donald Trump secure a second term or would Democratic senators like Kamala Harris or Elizabeth Warren with more leftist policies make it into the White House in 2020. Yet another interesting race to wait and watch.

5. European Premier League (EPL): EPL fever is on as usual with Liverpool leading the points table and Man City close behind. Arsenal and Tottenham remain in the top 4 while Man United is at the 5th spot this year after sacking the former coach, Jose Mourinho.

6. Release of Avengers Endgame and Game of Thrones: For fans of the Marvel universe, this year is definitely very important. It's the culmination of all events over a 10 years timeline which resulted in the *spoiler alert* wiping away of half the universe. We wait with baited breath as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the new favourite, Captain Marvel will soon fight it out in the finale.

Game of Thrones has an entirely different fan following as we wait to watch whether Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow (who apparently knows nothing) will claim the Iron Throne.

We live in interesting times. Cheers! Talk soon..

Decision Sciences - Post 1

#ShortPost - will cover it all over a period of time With the increasing importance of data in making decisions, let us look at some of the data related terms used in statistics which can help you make data driven decisions. Types of variables: Two important types of variables which should not leave you stunned are: Categorical (or nominal) variables Ordinal variables Categorical:  A categorical variable (sometimes called a nominal variable) is one that has two or more categories, but there is no intrinsic ordering to the categories. Ordinal: An ordinal variable is similar to a categorical variable.  The difference between the two is that there is a clear ordering of the variables.  Interval: An interval variable is similar to an ordinal variable, except that the intervals between the values of the interval variable are equally spaced.  Check the following link for more details: http://stats.idre.ucla.edu/other/mult-pkg/w...

Telangana: Do or Don't

I write this just a few minutes after a discussion with my team at work. Well it was a heated as well as a humorous debate but I was just a silent spectator as mostly Andhra guys were speaking and for the record, we had people belonging to Seemandhra(Non Telangana) and Telangana side as well. My honest opinion in this issue is that a state should not be divided. I have not done a detailed research about this topic so far. Today I heard some claims that Telangana people have been deprived of many resources and opportunities for a long period of time. If that is the case then a lot more has to be understood by myself before I pass a statement on this issue. However my general stand that a state should not be divided remains firm. What is this issue all about? Why did it come up for discussion today? The basic reason is the fact that, today in all leading national newspapers, the headline is: To quote Times of India: " Protest continues; trains, airports, hospital services...

How Flickr Did It Right

First of all, I would like to thank Chris Brogan for giving bloggers like me something to write about. Yes. In his blog he has given a list of 100 topics which he hopes that bloggers write about. In his blog he has clearly explained how some people approach him and ask about how he manages to get topics to blog about each day. He has explained how his situation is quite the opposite as for him, he has too much to write about. Not boring you anymore with my reporting. "He said, He hopes, He explained" Ok no more. So one of the topics I got from that list was: "How Flickr Did It Right" There were  a variety of topics to choose from but I chose this because I wanted to do some research before writing. Let me be honest here. At this moment when I start writing I have no clue what it is. Yes I do know its part of the popular new generation networking band wagon and that it has something to do with sharing. Maybe pics or reports or articles. I donno. In fact, I dou...
